There tends to be 2 types of plumbers and not all companies have both types on staff. There are plumbers who handle basic repairs and services( often times in emergency situations) and then there are the plumbers who specialize in remodeling projects and installations. For this reason it is very important to know what your needs are when looking to hire the professional.
There is a check list, and by going through you can avoid making costly mistakes in the hiring of a service professional.
Make sure to check for licensing and insurance
Find out if the plumber offer service guarantee or warranty
Ask about service fees; such as in the case of night, weekend, and emergency hours
Find how many years this company has been doing business in your area
Make sure you allow enough time for the plumber to get the job done right
For larger jobs be sure to request a written proposal or estimate
Do not hire a plumber based only on price
Ask if the company has all the tools or parts in stock for your particular needs
Ask for references, testimonials and less for reviews
Probably there are more to be add in the check list but those are basic. We wish you luck in hiring a plumbing contractor.
It is very important when you move to a new house is to check the hidden problems. Sometimes are hard to find, sometimes those are hidden by the previous homeowner. All those are very painful and you can fill them in your pocket. But some of them you can prevent to rise like a nightmare in your face. One of them is to check before you sign up the contract for new house the sewer main line. Few hundreds dollar can save thousands most of the time. Don't forget to call a plumber, your plumber not somebody else plumber, with good sewer drain service skills and let him check the sewer with camera. Be smart, don't listen the neighbor!
P.S. Today we spent 4 hrs to open a sewer main line for a house where probably last cleaning has been done in ice age. We make it and now everything is OK.
Thanksgiving is around the corner! For all of us is a good time to be with our families and closer friends. The thanksgiving diner is one of the pick of this beautiful holiday. But from plumbing point of view is sometimes a huge nightmare. Here are some tips to count of: 1. Do not, under any circumstance, dump grease directly down your drain. Grease solidifies when it cools and will solidify on the inside of your plumbing. 2. Always collect excess grease in spare containers. Wait for it to solidify and then dispose of it. 3. Never force large amounts of food down the garbage disposal at once. Give the unit plenty of time to grind the food before adding more. 4. Don't use your garbage disposal as a trash can. Turkey bones splinter (That's why you can't feed them to your dog.) and fibrous vegetable skins can wind around the blade, causing the disposal to come to a screeching halt. 5. Always turn on the water before starting the garbage disposal, and keep it running for a minute after turning off the disposal to move the waste through the pipes. Some mix water and vinegar will help, too.
The cold season is upon us. Again. But don't forget to be prepare with your plumbing for winter season. Did you drained the out side spigot? No, it is time to do it. Are you sure the kitchen drain is clean? Thanksgiving is here and you don't want your dishes to back up in the laundry tub, don't you? Call a plumber and let him to clean the kitchen drain. The main line I don't ask if is OK. It is not? OK than? Needs a good cleaning and you'll have a great year ending. Also the low temperature can burst your piping if those are expose and not insulated. Visualized all expose piping in your house, most in the basement and crawlspaces and if something is not well call the plumber and he will check for you. And by the way don't look for free service. Free is coming and less service is giving. Good job is a worthy job and needs to be compensated at his value.
Sunday is usually is a family day! Nice weather, NFL kick-off, all the ingredients for a nice day. But a maintenance engineer for a building in Chicago is asking for help to locate a main sewer line clogged. The building is property of kind of health institute and of course they have to be open tomorrow, Monday 9:00am. We arrived in less then 30 minutes. They tried to open the main line from 3 clean outs and one pulled toilet!? Wow! They broke one toilet and they could not open the line. After two hrs of camera inspection the findings are the following: there is no outlet, at least a good opening to city sewer line. We study the blue print and not even close with reality. At the end we've been informed the building has been built WITHOUT PERMIT by a plumbing company with NO PLUMBER! Now nothing else matter but the idea of having the right company for your projects. Chip companies rise up questions in quality, legality, liability of the work given!
Eyes up! Have a good week!
A plumber attended to a leaking faucet at the neurosurgeon's house. After a two-minute job the plumber demanded $150.
The neurosurgeon exclaimed, 'I don't charge this amount even though I am a surgeon."
The plumber replied, "I agree, you are right. I too, didn't either, when I was a surgeon. That's why I switched to plumbing!"
A doctor has some trouble with the kitchen sink, on a public holiday. He calls the local plumber, only to be told that it's his day off.
"But I get called out on my days off, too!" says the doctor, somewhat exasperated." So, the plumber relents.
The plumber arrives, and glances over the sink, looking preoccupied. He mumbles something about golf, then hands the doctor a couple of aspirin and walks out, saying, "Put these in. If it doesn't clear up in 24 hours, call me tomorrow."

We are in mid summer and we are very busy. The weather, unusual with heavy rains, very hot create a lot of problems which has to be solve fast and with the optimal solution. Main problems now is the capacity of sump pumps to pump out of the drain tile the underground water during the heavy rain. Most of the sump pumps installed are 1/3 hp which cannot deal the enormous amount of water fallen down during the storm. The solution is to up grade the sump pumps at 1/2 hp and even at 3/4 hp. Also the evaluation of entire drain tile system which protect the house has to be done by scoping the drain and cleaning the drain if is necessary. Why is important all of this, because in this way you protect the value of your house, you avoid any surprise which can affect your budget. The house insurance can be low but can be high, too.
Have a safely summer!
Yahoo news posted earlier today an interesting story about south Korean guy who presumably invented something bigger than the old plunger. The video is interesting but i have one question which is if the think explode under the pressure, and one observation if you are inexperience or have no clue about p =ρgh , don't try it.
You our reader think how will looks the world without complains! Beautiful! This is the world where we heads up! This we want to be the future. There are so many complains about everything or about nothing. Yes about nothing. Of course the world cannot be perfect! But think about this is the only world known, at this time is in now where else to go! We have to live here, together. Before everyone of us complain about something think twice. There is room for good words, nice gestures and for thank you!
